Learn AI & prompting

Get comfortable with an AI assistant, use it for real tasks, and learn how to judge the answer. Five lessons, with room to go further.

A useful order, at your pace

If you are completely new, try Start Here first. Otherwise, start with the lesson that matches your question. Every lesson has an example you can follow without opening another tool.

  1. Understanding AI

Know what AI can help with and where it can mislead you.

  2. Using AI for real tasks

Turn eight everyday tasks into requests you can check.

  3. Better prompting

Give useful context, revise a reminder and build a reusable template.

  4. The Anthropic 4Ds

Decide what to delegate, describe, discern and use with diligence.

  5. Getting better results

Compare alternatives and check claims against evidence.

Choose one assistant, not every assistant

ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are conversational AI assistants. You type a request, read an answer and can ask a follow-up. Start with one you can access and whose privacy settings you understand. You do not need to compare models before learning how to ask a clear question.

For a first task, use fictional notes and ask for a short summary. If you need current facts, check whether the tool can search in your account and inspect the actual sources it finds. A fluent answer alone does not establish that a search happened.

Compare the assistants and their official access information. Features and limits vary by account and can change.

Choose a task you can judge

Write down one small task: rewrite a message, organise a study plan or turn meeting notes into actions. State what a useful answer must include and what it must not change.

For example: “Turn my three notes into a checklist. Keep the dates exactly as written. Flag missing owners.” Check this by comparing the checklist with your notes, line by line.

Go FurtherOptional challenge. Come back whenever you’re ready.

Use the same fictional notes with two assistants. Compare missing facts, invented details and usefulness. Explain which answer you would use and what you would still edit.
